Professional Disclosure Statement

Jennifer specializes in working with children ages 2.5 years – 12 years old using primarily child-centered play therapy. Jennifer also works with adolescents up to age 18 years old on an individual basis specializing in treating trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, phase of life transitions, and implementing healthy boundaries.  Jennifer has completed the requirements to become a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy, and her application is currently pending approval as of November 2024. Jennifer is a TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) Practitioner and is trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing).

“Children are not miniature adults, and therefore, they use their own language to process and work through the problems they need to. That language is PLAY! I am passionate about play therapy and utilizing this approach to provide children a natural outlet for their emotions. Play therapy is the use of a theoretical model to implement the therapeutic powers of play to assist children in resolving behavioral and emotional disruptions and achieve healthy growth and development.

With over 10 years of experience working with children and families, I have learned the value of the relationship in therapy. My primary goal when working with children and their families is to provide a safe and accepting environment for children to heal and work towards regulation. Parental involvement in a child’s therapeutic process is not only valuable but necessary for long term success of the both the child and the family. I strive to empower parents to understand their children and the “why” behind the child’s behavior, so that parents feel confident and equipped to meet their child’s needs. Outcomes of play therapy include increased behavioral and emotion regulation, increased emotional vocabulary, improved self-esteem, and increased world view.

When working with adolescents, I utilize a variety of techniques including EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), interactive and art-based interventions, and even play therapy! I want everyone to feel safe, heard, and valued during their time in session.”
