Personal

It takes courage to really know ourselves. And, it takes faith and patience and determination to makes changes in our lives when we have met with a setback or a difficult situation. Whether a setback or situation is short term or has been going on for a while doesn’t matter as much as just having a willingness to take on a journey of change. If, as a therapist, I can help someone on their journey by offering them hope, guidance and an unconditional acceptance, then I am doing what I am meant to do.

From prior experience as a school counselor, I worked with many children, as well as with their families and teachers. Sometimes someone is just having a hard day and needs a little encouragement, but there are many issues that children and adolescents are dealing with on a regular basis—things like stress, anxiety, grief, loss, divorce, lack of beneficial communication skills, academic struggles, fitting in, relationships, and self-regulation (behavioral and emotional). Just because adults are grown-up doesn’t mean these issues all go away. Adults deal with many of these, too.

There are many strategies and techniques available to help people on their therapeutic journey. The techniques I use most often are Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Play Therapy involves techniques used mostly with younger children and uses play to communicate and work through the therapeutic process. Cognitive Behavior Therapy focuses on developing personal coping strategies by looking into a person’s thoughts, beliefs and attitudes. Solution Focused Brief Therapy uses a very goal-oriented approach, using very specific questions to develop an effective solution and focuses more on the here and now.

When I am not working, I love spending time with my family, both near and far! I love being “in nature”, love reading, love music and especially love life’s extra bonus called “grandchildren”!!

Professional Disclosure Statement (PDS)

I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Texas as well as an Approved LPC Supervisor with the State of Texas.  I work with a wide population including, but not limited to, children (3 years old and up), parents, families, adolescents, and adults of all ages.  In 2007, I received my licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor for the State of Texas and became a Board Approved LPC Supervisor in 2012.

When someone is ready to make changes in their life, I believe, as a therapist, my role is to be a sounding-board, an encourager and a guide.
