Anna completed her practicum at Dallas Baptist University where she works full-time as an Academic and Career Development Advisor. She and her husband, Daniel, live in Grand Prairie and care for Daniel’s elderly uncle who is on the Autism Spectrum.
In her free time, Anna enjoys spending quality time with both sides of her family and being outdoors whenever she can. Anna and her husband volunteer with the Children’s ministry at their home church in Duncanville and have a passion for working with children.
Anna has an interest in working with children who have special needs. Once she obtains her License as a Professional Counselor, Anna plans to become a Registered Play Therapist for the state of Texas.
I believe that the nature of the counseling relationship is unique, as it affords a special type of insight and accountability. Counseling is most effective, I believe, when a trusting relationship is formed between the counselor and client. Once the relationship is solidified, there is so much room for growth and change.
In my approach to therapy, I draw from elements of Reality Therapy, in which the emphasis is placed on identifying client choice, responsibility, and overall purpose. I believe that the client is the expert on him or herself and has a lot to teach me in the process of therapy. I focus on the client’s present circumstances but also recognize the importance of exploring both the client’s family system and personal history.
With children, I utilize a Play Therapy approach in which the primary method of communication is play. I believe children are intentionally and creatively designed to express themselves through play. When the counselor’s full attention is on the child and his or her activities, a safe environment is created for personality development and unbridled creative expression. Whether a child is having trouble adjusting to a big change or learning how to cope with a traumatic situation, I believe Play Therapy is an effective form of treatment for children of many different backgrounds and abilities.
All of our therapists are trained and equipped to help you through issues related to anxiety, depression, and stress using a variety of techniques and tools designed specifically for you.
This is a therapeutic technique that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences (trauma).
We are happy to offer testing and therapeutic services using a variety of holistic approaches. These approaches can be used as either supplemental services to traditional therapy or sometimes in place of them.
Both Play Therapy and Art Therapy can be used to help clients interpret, express, and resolve their emotions and thoughts. Although Play Therapy is often used for children, Art Therapy can be used with a wide age range.
