Personal

Allison was born in 1970 to two master teachers in South Texas, near Galveston. After graduating Cum Laude from The University of North Texas in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a certificate of Secondary Education in Texas, she began working in the Texas Public School System in both middle and high school levels. In 2001, with the birth of her first child, Allison retired from teaching and went into tutoring students from home as well as staying home to raise her two children.

In 2020, Allison completed a Master’s program at The King’s University in Southlake, TX, and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She continued to tutor students until she completed her licensure as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. From there, Allison began her third career as a counselor, a job she says that she was born to do.

Allison has a love for people and for counseling and feels she has really been a counselor all of her life, although she was not one officially. She is a mother of two grown daughters and one corgi named Milo, but has also raised two other dogs, several fish, two guinea pigs, two goats, and two hamsters with the help of her daughters.

Professional Disclosure Statement

As a counselor with the experience I have, my perspective is eclectic and creative. This is my third career, but the one I have always felt called to do. I approach each client with a special respect for him or her as a person, and we look carefully at mindsets, self-talk, and family systems. I use a combination of CBT, Systems Theory, and person-centered therapy. My hope, as a good counselor, is to listen carefully to the client, help him or her define and go after his/her goals, and work myself out of a job!

Every person who comes in is important. I work with both school-age children and adults, and I specialize in helping preteens, teens, and women. My areas of specialty are trauma (I’m EMDR Trained), depression, anxiety, grief and loss, transitional times such as empty nest syndrome, care-taking, divorce care, school-related issues, issues related to ADHD and Autism, parenting skills, as well as premarital counseling. Whatever your needs, my promise is to treat you with respect and dignity.

My mindset is very much that you are the expert, and I will be assisting you in your journey toward health and wholeness.
