Alex was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX. He is happily married to Destinye, has five wonderful children, and one granddaughter. Alex Loves being with his family, being a therapist, fishing, golfing, and time with friends. He is a huge Dallas Mavericks fan and has been a drummer for 30 years.
Personal therapeutic growth, education, training, and the time working in various mental health settings (inpatient, outpatient, schools, private practice, and crisis situations) for the last 9 years have given Alex the experience to become a well-rounded counselor. He provides exceptional face-to-face and virtual counseling to individuals (ages 5+), families, groups, and couples. Alex’s passion for counseling others is highlighted through close collaboration with clients, client families, and their support systems. He is not limited to, but has a special calling in counseling males, and adults, and loves working with couples. Alex has the innate ability to relate to and connect with clients. He is highly effective in meeting clients where they are, provides a comfortable judgment-free environment, validates thoughts and feelings, and communicates with each client in the exact way they need. He walks alongside clients while sharing with them in their struggles and successes.
In working with Alex, his clients experience first-hand that he genuinely cares and does his best to help clients accomplish their therapeutic goa
In addition to my degrees, I have achieved the Gottman Method training levels I & II – a strong evidence-based modality used in working with couples now for the last nearly 50.
I am also trained in the CALM court-ordered Anger Management course.
Additionally, I can provide computer-based cognitive testing for ADHD, Major Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, & Bipolar Disorder. This testing diagnosis can be used to help establish a good baseline to assist in creating a specific treatment plan, potential medication intervention, and also potential accommodations for work or school.
My style in working with clients involves an eclectic approach, which means that I draw on various therapeutic modalities in working with clients. The modalities I tend to use the most are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (an approach that focuses on examining the relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), Transactional Analysis (a modality that helps build insights into a person’s relationships & their interacting dynamics with others, while building healthy boundaries, healthy mindsets, and assertive communication skills), and Solution Focused Therapy. Using these modalities, we can discover new ways to approach anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship issues, life transitions, as well as situations that trigger your emotions.
I like to look at the whole picture of clients including stressors, how they address these stressors, medical issues, chemical imbalances, environmental, and relationship issues. From there, it is my goal to educate, help process, build insights, and help give clients the tools they need to address issues of the past, present, and future.
All of our therapists are trained and equipped to help you through issues related to anxiety, depression, and stress using a variety of techniques and tools designed specifically for you.
This is a therapeutic technique that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences (trauma).
We are happy to offer testing and therapeutic services using a variety of holistic approaches. These approaches can be used as either supplemental services to traditional therapy or sometimes in place of them.
Both Play Therapy and Art Therapy can be used to help clients interpret, express, and resolve their emotions and thoughts. Although Play Therapy is often used for children, Art Therapy can be used with a wide age range.
We’d like to stay in touch through a simple newsletter.
