One of the most profound gifts I have ever received was my first pair of glasses. I was in the 7th grade and was so nearsighted, I couldn’t see the board at school anymore and had to sit in the front. It made me try twice as hard to understand what the teacher was writing on the board and then I would go home and study it on my own until I got it. Finally, the school nurse told my parents I was struggling with seeing the board and, as a result, I got my first pair of glasses. Putting them on the first time, I was amazed at all the details around me that I thought were lost. I could see each leaf on a tree, and each pebble in the yard. I could see my parents’ worried eyes and my sister’s sneaky fingers and look in the mirror and saw myself again. There I was. All I needed was a new tool to help me navigate the world again. Math was easier, my parents stopped worrying, and my sister…well, she’s still sneaky, but I could see her taking my snacks now.
Therapy is a tool that can help us all navigate our world in a way that helps us find not just ourselves, but others. It can help you see the same tree in a much richer way and the glow in your partner’s eyes when they look at you. I’m here to help you put on those glasses when things aren’t clear or you got lost.
I still need glasses and I appreciate them every day. Now I need them to read up close, too!
When I’m not helping people find their glasses, I am traveling, reading, or just lying on the nearest beach I can find. Thankfully, my dear husband shares those same passions so you can find us reading on some beach in some foreign town quite often.
I am a licensed professional counselor committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and confidential environment for my clients. I employ a variety of therapeutic approaches, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy. I believe in a holistic approach to mental health and wellness, and I understand that each individual’s unique experiences necessitate a personalized therapeutic approach.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that emphasizes the crucial role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. By identifying and challenging maladaptive thought patterns, CBT can help in facilitating change in emotions and behaviors. I utilize this approach frequently in my practice, as it can be highly effective in treating a wide range of disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
In addition to CBT, I often incorporate principles of Person-Centered Therapy, which values the client as an individual and emphasizes their self-determination in therapy. This approach encourages clients to realize their abilities to grow and change in ways that are aligned with their authentic selves.
However, while I lean towards these methods, I understand that everyone is unique and what works for one individual may not work for another. Consequently, I strive to integrate a variety of therapeutic techniques and theories to best serve each client’s specific needs. It is my intention to provide an integrative approach that will be most beneficial for you.
I strongly believe that counseling is a valuable tool for everyone, not just those who are struggling with serious mental health concerns. Therapy can be a space for personal growth, self-discovery, and the development of healthier coping mechanisms. Change may seem difficult initially, and the process might be uncomfortable at times. But I am here to gently guide you through this journey, providing the necessary support and understanding that can help you navigate the complexities of your emotions and experiences.
The transformative power of therapy can often exceed expectations, leading to profound changes in one’s outlook and overall quality of life. I am committed to facilitating this process for my clients, working together to create a more fulfilled and balanced life.
Your trust and comfort are my utmost priority, and I am dedicated to building a therapeutic relationship based on empathy, respect, and collaboration. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you on this journey towards greater mental health and wellbeing.
All of our therapists are trained and equipped to help you through issues related to anxiety, depression, and stress using a variety of techniques and tools designed specifically for you.
This is a therapeutic technique that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences (trauma).
We are happy to offer testing and therapeutic services using a variety of holistic approaches. These approaches can be used as either supplemental services to traditional therapy or sometimes in place of them.
Both Play Therapy and Art Therapy can be used to help clients interpret, express, and resolve their emotions and thoughts. Although Play Therapy is often used for children, Art Therapy can be used with a wide age range.
